Many of the courses that we previously offered are still ongoing at Oakhill, and are now being offered through the Oakhill Prison Humanities Project. To get involved in one of these courses (in Poetry, Fiction/Memoir Writing, African-American Studies, Spanglish poetry and Spoken Word, or Fiction Reading), please visit their website and contact their project coordinator.
Be a Library Builder!
Do you have extra books you're not getting good use out of? Prison libraries receive very little to no funding for their collections, and your donations can make an enormous difference in the life of someone on the inside. Over the last several years, the Writers In Prisons Project has collected more than 1000 books for the Oakhill Correctional Facility and several hundred for Taycheedah. If you live in or near Madison, please consider giving your neglected new/gently-used books the Wisconsin Books to Prisoners program, run out of the Rainbow Books Cooperative. If you live elsewhere in the state, know that many other Wisconsin correctional facilities would also benefit from your books; you can call any correctional facility and ask about donation procedures for their library.
